The game idea

So, many years ago I used to play a lot of Avalon Hill "bookcase" games. If you think back, these games tended to have 100's of little square cardboard pieces, a large map (usually consisting of a hex based grid), and a thick book of complex rules, all with the goal of providing a realistic simulation of some historical event. My favorite games are "War and Peace" and "Diplomacy". Both of these games take hours of times to play and usually require a room full of people and a nice bottle of wine for maximum enjoyment. The big difference between my two favorites is "War and Peace" which is a bit more about chance (roll of the dice) and "Diplomacy" which is all strategy. In "Diplomacy" all action happens at the same time but between each turn you have a 15 minute negotiation time limit. This time limit is there to make the game go faster, but you are still investing hours to play.

As we are designing our first game we are going to base the game play much more on "War and Peace", we don't want it to take forever; however, it will be turned based. I've been reviewing the new functionality of the iOS5 Game Center capabilities I am excited to see that much of the complexity of this genre is handled for me in the new API's, including the ability to find additional people to play with.

If you are interested in helping us develop the game, drop me an email at support@theapapp.com,. We are looking for graphics designers to help in the look and feel.
